August 2019: Exciting work through our collaboration with Dr. Malu Tansey, looking at attenuation of dopamine degeneration following treatment with mixed lineage kinase inhibitor. Elizabeth Kline led this project and it was published in Experimental Neurology.
May 2019: Aimee's published some of her dissertation work on developmental co-exposure to the insecticide deltamethrin and stress in Toxics!
April 2019: Aimee successfully defended her PhD! We are so proud of her and wish her the best of luck as she transitions back to the clinic to finish her last two years of medical school!
March 2019: The lab was awarded a HERCULES Pilot Grant to investigate alterations to the transcriptomic network of the developing dopamine circuit following exposure to select insecticides during critical periods of neurodevelopment.
January 2019: Had the opportunity to work with Alison Bay and Dr. Madeleine Hackney on a project looking at side of onset in Parkinson disease and performance on the MDS-UPDRS. This study was published in Journal of the Neurological Sciences.
August 2018: More work with Dr. Easley and Alyse! This time evaluating alterations to spermatogenesis following exposure to polyfluorinated chemicals. Check out their work in Systems Biology in Reproductive Medicine!
May 2018: We had the opportunity to work with Dr. Chas Easley and his student Alyse Steves to study the effects of various common use flame retardants on spermatogenesis. This work was published in iScience!
March 2018: The lab was awarded an RO1 from NIEHS to investigate the role of the placenta in neurodevelopmental deficits following exposure to insecticides. This project will leverage a variety of expert collaborators, including Dr. Carmen Marsit and Dr. Dana Barr at Emory, as well as Jia Chen and Ke Hao at Mt. Sinai.
October 2017: Equally busy October! We worked with Rachel Cliburn to help characterize the expression of VMAT2 in different transgenic models of VMAT2 expression for the Journal of Clinical Neuroanatomy. And Mike published a review article on metal exposure and Parkinson disease for Advances in Neurobiology.
March 2017: We had a pretty busy March! Check out Camille's paper published in Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology on impairment of the hippocampal dopamine circuit following exposure to the flame retardant HBCDD. Also, Amy Dunn published her work on SV2C and the nigrostriatal dopamine system in PNAS!
October 2016: Big news!!! Aimee just passed her oral and written qualifying exams for candidacy in the Environmental Health Sciences PhD Program at Emory University! She worked extremely hard and we are very proud of her!
August 2016: Aimee just had her invited review published in Toxics! The Synapse as a Central Target for Neurodevelopmental Susceptibility to Pesticides will be out soon!

April 2016: Congratulations to Lizzie Aronoff for finishing her Honors Thesis for the Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology degree! Lizzie earned Highest Honors for her project and is in the middle of applying to medical school.
April 2016: Congratulations to Chad Camp and Danielle Clarkson-Townsend for completing their MPH degrees! Chad will be continuing his studies in the Molecular and Systems Pharmacology PhD program at Emory and Danielle will be continuing her studies in the Environmental Health Science PhD program at Emory.

April 2015: Congratulations to Kelly G, who is the 2015 recipient of the Excellence in Environmental Health Research Award from the Department of Environmental Health. Kelly has worked tirelessly in the lab for the last 2 years and has emerged with a wonderful project that characterized the effects of the flame retardant compound, hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) on the nigrostriatal dopamine system.

March 2015: We are excited to welcome newest rotation student, Carlie Hoffman, a PhD student in the Neuroscience Program, to the lab. She is getting her hands dirty with some in vitro neurotoxicity assays.
March 2015: Mike chaired a symposium on the contribution of environmental toxicants to neurodegenerative disease and presented the labs' work on the effects of flame retardant exposure on the dopaminergic synapse at the American Society for Neurochemistry. Miki Aschner spoke about a novel transporter for manganese and its role in manganism, Jason Richardson discussed his work on the interaction between APOE4 and DDT/DDE in Alzheimer disease risk, and Paul Cox presented some new data implicating BMAA from cynaobacteria and etiopathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
February 2015: Mike wrote a Highlight for the journal, Neurotransmitter, discussing the lab's recent findings related to developmental endosulfan exposure and alteration to the frontal cortex of offspring. We will post a link to the article as soon as it is published.
February 2015: We are excited to welcome Aimee Vester to the lab! Aimee is an MD/PhD student who will be completing her PhD in the Environmental Health Sciences Program.

December 2014: Promoting two events that are coming up in March 2015!: First, I will be chairing a symposium at the annual American Society for Neurochemistry meeting March 14-18 in Atlanta, GA https://www.asneurochem.org/meetings/asn-meeting-2015-atlanta.html. Our symposium is titled: "Contribution of Environmental Chemicals to Neurodegenerative Disease" and will discuss the role of exposure to specific environmental toxicants in the risk and pathology associated with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson and Alzheimer disease, as well as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Second, I will be participating in the STEM Research and Career Symposium at the Emory Conference Center, March 25-27, 2015 http://www.gs.emory.edu/about/special/stem_rc_symposium.html. The conference is open to all and will be a great chance for students as well as faculty to gain valuable information about STEM resources and opportunities at Emory University.
